Will retrofit electrify used cars?
Very popular in Germany, the automotive retrofit is still in its infancy in France. However, transforming our old cars into 100% electric models is a promising path.
Authorized by decree in the Official Journal of April 3, the automotive retrofit is eligible for the conversion premium announced last week by Emmanuel Macron.Simply converting a car with a combustion engine (petrol or diesel) into a 100% electric vehicle, according to strict specifications.Very popular in the United States and Germany, this technology is still little known in France, despite a certain interest of the public.Converting its old Clio, Peugeot 206 or why not the Beetle of Grandpa's collection, for a few thousand euros, in a zero rejection car… It must be recognized that the principle has something to seduce, especially if it is with the double blessing from Bercy and the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
Up to 5,000 euros bonus
French people who wish will receive a state subsidy of 2,500 euros to convert their old car to electric power.A boost that can be doubled (5,000 euros) if their tax reference income is less than 18,000.The corporate fleets are not forgotten, since the system provides for a bonus of 2,500 euros, or even 5,000 euros for a utility model.
"This decree provides a regulatory framework for the electrical transformation of thermal cars into electric vehicles (battery or hydrogen). Now in France, all vehicles over five years old (cars, utility vehicles, trucks, buses and coaches) as well as 2 and 3-wheelers over three years old can be electrically transformed. The retrofit is finally officially recognized as a sustainable mobility solution and a job-creating activity in France. This is good ecological news and economic ”, welcomed, last month, Gérard Feldzer and Arnaud Pigounides, co-presidents of the association AIRe which federates the Actors of the electric retrofit industry.
